Terms of use

The short version

Download Unbury and use it for anything, at home or at work. You sign up for nothing and there is no account to hold. In return it comes with no warranty and no promise of support: one person maintains it, in his own time, for his own bookmarks, and shares it because it might suit yours.

Using Unbury or this site means you accept what follows.

The licence

Unbury is released under the MIT licence. You can use, copy, change and redistribute it, including inside something you sell, as long as the copyright notice and the licence text travel with it.

The licence covers the code. It does not hand over the name or the icon — if you ship a build of your own, give it your own name.

Unbury bundles other people’s open source, all of it permissive, and each package keeps its own licence. The full list is in the repository, in the package manifest the build reads.

What it costs, and who you pay

You pay us nothing, and there is nothing to buy here. But Unbury cannot turn text into meaning on its own, so it uses an account you hold with a model provider — OpenRouter or OpenAI — and you pay them directly for what it uses.

• Importing links and asking Unbury a question are the two that cost. Both say roughly what they will cost before they run.
• Pressing Return on a search costs thousandths of a cent.
• Browsing, filtering and reading your own library cost nothing, because none of it leaves your Mac.
• For scale: importing about six hundred links cost around $0.42 at the models Unbury ships with.

Those prices are theirs and they can change them. Any estimate the app shows is an estimate, and the bill is between you and the provider. Choosing a different model, or a provider that charges more, changes what you spend — that is your choice and yours to watch.

Where the download comes from

Every copy of Unbury comes from the releases page of its GitHub repository. The disk image is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarised by Apple, which is why it opens by dragging it to Applications rather than arguing with Gatekeeper.

If you found Unbury on a download site, in a torrent, or anywhere else, it did not come from here and there is no way for anyone to vouch for what is inside it.

Your bookmarks, your keys, your responsibility

Unbury reads your browsers’ bookmark files and never writes to them, so nothing it does can change or lose what is in your browser. Its own library is two files in Application Support, which you can copy, move or delete like any other file.

That library is not a backup of your bookmarks, and it is not backed up itself. Keep your own copy — the browser’s HTML export takes three clicks — the way you would with any app that holds something you care about.

Your API key is yours to look after. Unbury keeps it in the macOS Keychain and its error messages are written to avoid printing one, but a screenshot of the settings page will show it. Never put a key in an issue.

No warranty, and what that means in practice

Unbury is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, as the MIT licence sets out. It has not been tested against every Mac, every browser profile or every page on the web, and there is no service level behind it.

It is a personal project. It works and it is used daily, but there is no support promise and no roadmap. Something broken, or an idea: open an issue on the repository. It will be read.

This site is offered on the same footing. It describes the version of the app current when it was written, and a release can make a sentence here out of date before anyone notices.

This site

There are no cookies, no analytics and no trackers on unbury.migsilva.dev. Nothing is stored in your browser by this site and nothing about your visit is recorded by it. The pages are static files.
